About The Project:

Made possible through a collaboration with L.A.'s Department of Cultural Affairs MuralWorks Program, a mural honoring local residents and histories of East Hollywood will be painted in Spring 2026 near the intersection of Normandie and Hollywood Blvd by me and local youth apprentices.

The proposed mural will depict the stories of East Hollywood's diverse local and immigrant populations through portraits of past and present residents and their families, who have helped build East Hollywood's small but dynamic neighborhood over the past 100 years. The mural offers an opportunity to immortalize local individuals and groups who have contributed to East Hollywood in big and small ways over its extensive history while celebrating the neighborhood's rich history of collaboration, solidarity, and cultures that have made it home.

For the project, we have opened a call to the community to submit their loved ones and local heroes to be included in the mural, through family photos and stories. We intend to assemble a committee formed by representatives from multiple community resources to determine which portraits are included in the final design. Additionally, the mural will include a QR code that leads to a webpage with collected written, or video interviews linked to the mural characters, and others submitted. The intention behind this is to highlight local histories and drive support and insight to local businesses, organizations, and individuals included in the piece.

The final design will include past and present residents of East Hollywood submitted through the form below, with all necessary permissions.

How to Participate

As part of the design process, we welcome submissions of loved ones, local legends, neighbors, and icons of the area (including but not limited to, Virgil Village, Thai Town, Little Armenia, Historic Fillipinotown, Hollymont Junction, Hollyset Junction, and more) to be considered for inclusion in the mural. Individuals may be included through a portrait, or by a symbol, object or location/landmark that represents them and their connection to East Hollywood.

In addition to consideration for placement in the mural, all submissions will have the opportunity to be archived in a digital compilation of local histories and narratives, accessible from the mural by QR code.

Share your stories and contribute to a visual slice of East Hollywood, honoring the histories and magic interwoven through community, interdependence, and collaboration of this distinctive place.
